Gomukhasana is a unique technique in yoga exercises, it is also known as the cow face posture. Gomukhasana is derived from two Sanskrit words, go and mukha, go means cow and mukha means head or face. So collectively Gomukhasana means the cow face posture. Some yoga intellectuals think that gomukha means light in the head or on the face. |

This exercise helps to put suitable pressure on the hips and the lower region of the body. Some instructors teach and practice this exercise to relief different body parts like arms, spine, neck and the middle region.The basic technique to practice this exercise is to, sit on the yoga mattress and try to sit straight, such that your spine must be straight, arms straight and are placed on both sides, legs must be straight and should be apart from each other according to hips distance. Now to position your legs, bend your knees and try to move your feet in such way that sole points towards yourself. Your hands must be under the shoulders and touching the ground. Now move your right leg on your left leg or just cross both legs such that soles pointing in backward direction. Now in this posture try to spine must be straight and feet must be as close as possible. After doing this you have to position arms. Lift your left elbow such that it points in upward direction and palm of the hand must be at the back. Now with the help of right hand grip the left hand such that your right elbow must be pointing in backward direction and move your elbow as far as possible in the back direction. This will twist your left elbow and hand, which are placed just at the back of the spine. Now to come back in the original position, unhook your hands, release the crossed legged posture and sit in the upright position. Relax for a while and repeat this exercise 5 to 8 times.
We can get many benefits by practicing this exercise. It is very useful for people with chronic or serious pain like of hips, back, spine and the abdominal region. It is also an excellent exercise for balancing and maintaining good body posture. It helps to straighten the spine and the back bone.
